660 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Mar. 23,

MONDAY, March 23rd, 1874.
The Senate met at 12 o'clock, M.
Prayer by Rev. Mr. Hedges.
Present the following Senators :

Messrs. Aydelott, Blake, Brewer, Billingsley, Brattan,
Crawford, Davis, Longwell, Phelps, Stevens, Steiner, Suit,
Tuck, Williams-- 14.

The Secretary announced that the President of the Senate
being absent, it would be necessary for the Senate to proceed
to the election of a Chairman, pro tem.

On motion by Mr. Longwell,
The Hon. W. H. Tuck was chosen Chairman.

The proceedings of Friday were read and approved.

Mr. Williams presented the petition of Charles R. Harri-
son, and other citizens of Calvert county, asking protection
for fish in the Patuxent River.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Chesa-
peake Bay and its Tributaries.

On motion by Mr. Phelps,

Leave was granted Messrs. Phelps, Crawford and Billings-
ley, to introduce a bill to revive and extend the Act of Jan-
uary Session, 1872, chapter 420, entitled an Act to revive,
re-enact and amend certain sections of the Act of January
Session, 1852, chapter 316, entitled an Act to authorize the
appointment of a Commissioner to take testimony; to provide
for the recording of copies of wills and other papers, of which
the originals were lost, by the burning of the Court House
in Dorchester county, and to remedy, as far as practicable,
the evils likely to ensue from the destruction of the records
of said county.

On motion by Williams,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Corporations to
report a bill incorporating the Drovers' and Mechanics' Bank
of Baltimore.

Mr. Williams, from the Committee on Corporations, re-
