Mr. Spencer presented the petition of sundry citizens of
Kent county, against the repeal of the law in relation to
catching fish in the head waters of the Chesapeake Bay.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Chesa-
peake Bay and its Tributaries.

On motion by Mr. Denson,

Leave was granted to the Senators from Baltimore city to
Introduce a bill entitled an Act to add an additional section
to the Fourth Article of Public Local Laws, relating to the
deputies of the Sheriff of Baltimore city.

On motion by Mr. McCulloh.

Leave was granted to Messrs. McCulloh, Walsh and Lloyd
to report a bill entitled an Act to authorize the County Com-
missioners of Allegany county to correctly assess and charge
the devisees and assignees of the late Richard Caton, of Mary-
land, and his several daughters, with the lands belonging to
them in Allegany county, from January 1st, 1873, and there-
after, so that the taxes really due thereon may be correctly
ascertained and paid.

The Clerk of the House of Delegates appeared and deliv-
ered the following message:

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

March 18th, 1874.
Gentlemen of the Senate :

We respectfully ask your Honorable Body to return to this
House the bill entitled an Act relating to the Weigher of
Hay and Straw at Canton, in Baltimore county.

MILTON Y. KIDD,

Chief Clerk.
Also, returned

The Senate bill entitled an Act to establish a Commission
of Fisheries of the State of Maryland, define its duties, and
to appropriate a sum of money to defray the expenses thereof.

Endorsed "Passed by yeas and nays with proposed amend-
ments

AMENDMENTS PROPOSED.

Section 1. "And that one of the Commissioners shall come
from the Eastern, and one from the Western Shore, of the
State."

At the end of line 13, section 2, insert: "And that they
also enquire into the expediency of constructing fish-ways or
