increase the compensation of the Judges of the Orphans' Court
of Baltimore city,

Being under consideration,

The President announced that the hour of 12 o'clock having
arrived, the Senate would proceed to the consideration of the
order of the day,

Being the Senate bill relating to Usury,

On motion by Mr. Blake,
The order of the day was postponed for fifteen minutes.

The Senate then continued the consideration of the bill to
increase the compensation of the Judges of the Orphans'
Court of Baltimore city,

Mr. Stevens submitted the the following amendment:

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Strike out ''section 2" after the word enacted, and insert
"That this Act shall not go into effect until after the expira-
tion of the terms of office for which the present Judges of the
Orphans' Court have been elected or appointed."

Mr. Stevens moved a call of the Senate, when the fellow-
ing Senators responded :

Messrs. President, Aydelott, Blake, Brewer, Billingsley,
Brattan, Claggett, Denson, Earle, Fields, Getty, Knight,
Longwell, Lloyd, Mudd, McCulloh, Phelps, Stevens, Steiner,
Suit, Williams—21.

The Sergeant-at-Arms was sent to notify absent Senators
that their presence was requested in the Senate Chamber.

On motion by Mr. Stevens,
Further proceedings under the call were suspended.

The question being upon the amendment submitted by Mr.

Stevens,

Mr, Fields demanding the yeas and nays,

It was adopted as follows :

AFFIRMATIVE.

Messrs. Brattan, McCulloh,

Claggett, Phelps,

Denson, Stevens,

Knight, Steiner,

Longwell, Suit,

Mudd, Williams—12.
