TUESDAY, March 17th, 1871.

The Senate met at 11 o'clock, A. M.

Prayer by Rev. Mr. Kinzer.

Present at roll call the following Senators :

Messrs. President, Aydelott, Blake, Brewer, Billingsley,
Brattan, Claggett, Davis, Denson, Earle, Fields, Getty,
Knight, Longwell, Lloyd, Mudd, McCulloh, Phelps, Stevens.
Steiner, Spencer, Suit, Williams, Walsh—24.

The proceedings of yesterday were read and approved.
On motion by Mr. Longwell.

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to report
a bill entitled an Act to appropriate a sum of money to pay
the current expenses of the House of Reformation and In-
struction for colored children, in Prince George's county,
and for the erection of two family buildings, barns, shops
and other necessary out-buildings.

Mr. Aydelott presented the resolutions adopted by the
Protestant Methodist Conference of Maryland District, now
in Session at Georgetown, D. C., in. reference to Local Op-
tion.

Which, were read and referred to the Committee on Tem-
perance.

Mr. Davis presented the petition of Farmers' Union No.
4, of Baltimore county, in favor of a law for the protection
of Sheep.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Agri-
culture.

On motion by Mr. Davis,

Leave was granted to Messrs. Davis, Billingsley and Fields
to report a bill to provide for the indexing of Deeds in Balt;-
more comity.

On motion by Mr. Stevens,

Leave was granted to the Committee on Finance to report
a bill to appropriate a sum of money to assist the Faculty of
Medicine of the University of Maryland to build a Hospital.

Mr. Spencer presented the petition of sundry citizens of
