of Washington, far the use of the United States Senator from
the State of Maryland.

In accordance with the provisions of the order passed on
January 15th,

The President announced the following Special Committees:

Committee on the Hospital for the Insane, at Spring Grove
the Asylum for the Deaf and Dumb, the Blind and Inebriate,
and the Johns Hopkins Institutions, and the Washington Ceme-
tery.—Messrs. Tuck, Brattan, Longwell, Walsh, Crawford.

Committee on the State Board of Health.—Messrs. Phelps,
Stevens, Knight, Blake and Mudd.

Senate bill, entitled, " An Act to confirm and approve an
Act of the General Assembly of Maryland, passed at January
Session, 1872, Chapter 4, entitled 'An Act authorizing the
County Commissioners of Frederick county, to subscribe to
the capital stock of the Liberty and Frederick Turnpike Road
Company of Frederick county."

Was read the second time and ordered to be e'ngrossed
for a third reading;

On motion by Mr. Davis,
Leave of absence was granted to Mr. Earle for one day,

Mr. Billingsley presented the petitions of Eliza Thompson
and Clinton Jones, with accompanying papers, each asking a
pension.

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on Pensions.

Mr. Steiner presented the report of George C. Dearer,
Principal of Frederick College, for the year ending December
31st, 1873, showing the condition of that Institution.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Educa-
tion.

On motion by Mr. Walsh, it was

Ordered, That when the Senate adjourns, it stand adjoiirnecl
until Monday, 12, meridian.

On motion by Mr. Walsh, it was

Ordered, That the Secretary of the Senate, be directed to
procure for the use of the Senate a post office balance.
