when imposing a fine, penalty or forfeiture for the

 

violation of any by-law or ordinance of said corpo-

 

ration, shall have power to commit the person con-

 

victed to the public jail or any appropriate place of

 

confinement within the corporation, which the pres-

 

ident and commissioners may provide; and the

 

sheriff of the county shall receive and safe keep such

 

person according to the tenor of the commitment.

 

and shall be entitled to his usual fees therefor; and

 

the president of the commissioners, or justice of the

 

peace who have directed such commitment, may

 

order any person so committed to be discharged ;

AN ACT to amend the act of eighteen hundred and

tled " an act to incorporate the North Branch

 

Company," by adding two sections thereto, to be

 

numbered eight and nine.

 

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

 

Maryland, That the act of eighteen hundred and

 

sixty-seven, chapter three hundred and nine, be and
