tution and laws of this State, which acts are alleged

to be in violation of the act of Congress, approved

May the thirty-first, eighteen hundred and seventy,

entitled " an act to enforce the rights of citizens of
|

the United States, to vote in the several States of
|

this Union, and for other purposes;" the Governor may
employ two counsel in each case, if he shall deem it
|

expedient, for the defense of the cases mentioned in

said act, and such counsel so employed by him, shall
|
 
|
receive such compensation for his or their services aa
|
 
|
the Governor shall certify to be proper, not exceeding
|
 
|
two hundred dollars, to each counsel in each case, as
|
 
|
full compensation, unless said case shall go to the
|
 
|
Supreme Court of the United States.
|
 
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the Comptroller is
|
 
|
hereby directed and authorized to draw his warrant
|

upon the Treasurer for such sums, and in favor of

such counsel as the Governor shall certify, to be paid
|
 
|
from any unused portion of the ten thousand dollars
|
 
|
appropriated by the act to which this is a supplement ;

which said ten thousand dollars, or so much thereof
|
 
|
as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated for such
|
 
|
purpose, together with the purposes of the act to
|
 
|
which this is a supplement.

|
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That this act shall take
