CHAPTER 222.

 

AN ACT to pay and compensate William Frank

 

Tucker, for services rendered in the United States

 

Circuit, and the United States District Courts in

   
 

defence of certain officers of registration, judges

 

of election and others indicted and prosecuted

 

therein for violation, as alleged, of the act of Con-

 

gress, entitled " an act to enforce the rights of

 

citizens of the United States to vote in the several

 

States of the Union, and for other purposes."

 

WHEREAS, under the act of the General Assembly

 

of Maryland passed at the January session, of eighteen

hundred and seventy-two, chapter two hundred and

 

seven, provisions was made for the defence of certain

 

officers of registration, judges of elections, and other

 

citizens of this State, then under indictment in the

 

United States Courts, for alleged violations of the

 

acts of Congress, approved May the thirty-first,

 

eighteen hundred and seventy, entitled " an aet to

 

enforce the rights of citizens of the United States, to

 

vote in the several States of this Union, and for other

 

purposes, " and whereas pursuant to the provisions of

 

the said act, His Excellency William Pinkney Whyte,

 

Governor of Maryland, appointed William Frank

 

Tucker to assist the Attorney General of the State,

 

in the defence of the parties so prosecuted ; and

 

whereas it appears to the General Assembly, that the

 

services contemplated by the said act, have been

 

duly rendered by the said Tucker according to true

 

intent and meaning of the same, therefore —

 

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of

Appropriation
to Wm Prank

Maryland, That the Comptroller of the Treasury of

Tucker

the State of Maryland, shall forthwith issue to the

 

Treasurer of Maryland, his warrant authorizing and

 

directing him to pay to the said William Frank

 

Tucker, the sum of four hundred dollars in full

 

compensation tor such legal service rendered in such

 

cases as was contemplated by the act of Assembly of

 

eighteen hundred and seventy-two, chapter two hun-

 

dred and seven.
