LAWS OF MARYLAND.

 

WHEREAS, at January session, in the year of our

 

Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two,

 

the General Assembly of Maryland parsed an act

 

which is chapter three hundred and forty-seven, of

 

the acts of that session, by which it provided that an

 

election should be held in the town of Port Deposit,

 

on the second Monday of May, in the year of our

 

Lord, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two,

 

at which all persons having the qualifications neces-

sary to vote for commissioners of said town, could

 

vote cither "for the new act of incorporation" or

 

" against the new act of incorporation;" and that if

 

the majority of ballots cast at that election should

 

have written or printed on them the words "for the

 

new act of incorporation," then said act should go

 

into full effect, on the first day of June, in the year

 

of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and sev-

 

enty-two; but if a majority of said ballots should

 

have written or printed on them the words " against

 

the new act of incorporation," then said act shall be

 

utterly null and void ; and —

 

WHEREAS, after complying with all the provisions.

and requirements of said acts, an election was held

 

on said second Monday of May, at which a large

 

majority' of the ballots cast had written or printed on

 

them the words " for the new act of incorporation ;

 

and —

WHEREAS, grave doubts have been suggested

 

whether or not the said act is of any legal validity,

 

because the question whether or not it should go

 

into hill effect, was by the terms of said act, made to

 

depend on the result of the election held as aforesaid,

 

on the said second Monday of May, which doubts it

 

is the object of this act to remove ; now, theretore —

 

SECTION 1. Se it enacted by the. General Assembly of

re-enacted

seven, of the acts passed at January session, in the

 

year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred and

 

seventy-two, entitled an act to repeal sections one

 

hundred and forty-one, one hundred and forty-two,

 

one hundred and forty-three, one hundred and forty-

 

four, one hundred and forty-five, one hundred and

 

forty-six, one hundred and forty-seven, one hundred

 

and forty-eight, one hundred and forty-nine, and one
