authorized and empowered, to employ a competent

 

person to make said plat or list, and to levy for, and

 

pay the person so employed, a reasonable compen-

 

sation for his services.

 

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the said County

and places for the letting of said public roads at

 

public auction, and the length and form of notice

 

for said letting, and the number of years each road

 

shall be let, not exceeding three years.

 

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the said County

Exact bond

Commissioners shall exact and take from each and

 

every person who may be declared the lowest bidder,

 

for keeping in repair any of the public roads in said

 

county, a bond to the said County Commissioners,

 

in a penalty double the amount of his bid, with

 

security, to be approved by said County Commis-
sioners, conditioned for the faithful discharge of his

 

duties as supervisor or repairer of said road or roads;

 

which bond may be sued on for any breach thereof,

 

in any court of law in this State, or where the

 

damages claimed does not exceed one hundred dol-

 

lars, before a justice of the peace.

 

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That in case the said

 

County Commissioners shall not be able to contract

for the mending and keeping in repair of any or all

 

of said public roads, by letting the same at public

 

auction as hereinbefore provided, the said County

 

Commissioners are hereby authorized to contract for

 

such repairing by private contract, upon such terms

 

as may be in their judgment for the best interest of

 

tax payers of said county.

 

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the said County

Appoint road
inspectors

Commissioners are hereby authorized and em-

 

powered, in their discretion, to appoint one or more

 

road inspectors, whose duty it shall be to examine

 

and inspect the public roads in said county, and to

 

ascertain if said roads are properly mended and in

 

good repair, and when said road inspector certifies

 

to the said County Commissioners, that the public

 

roads assigned to him for inspection are in good

 

repair, the said County Commissioners will be

 

authorized to pay to such supervisor the amount oi

 

compensation which may be due him.
