CHAPTER 171.

AN ACT to repeal sections four, twelve, and fifteen,
|
 
|
of an act passed and approved April fourth, eigh-
|
 
|
teen hundred and seventy, chapter two hundred
|
 
|
and sixty, entitled an act to incorporate the town
|
 
|
of Laurel, in Prince George's county, and to re-en-
|
 
|
act the same with amendments.
|
 
|
SECTION 1. And be it enacted by the General Assembly
|

of Maryland, That sections four, twelve, and fifteen,
|
re-enacted
|
of an act passed and approved April fourth, eighteen
hundred and seventy, chapter two hundred and sixty,
|
 
|
entitled an act to incorporate the town of Laurel, in
|
 
|
Prince George's county, be and the same are hereby
|
 
|
repealed and re-enacted to read as follows :
|
 
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the male citzens of
|
 
|
said town, of the age of twenty-one years and up-
|

wards, having resided therein for the space of six
|
 
|
months next preceeding the first Monday in May
|
 
|
next, may on that day, at the place where elections
|
 
|
are held in said town, and on the first Monday in
|
 
|
May, in each and every year thereafter, be authorized
|
 
|
to elect five commissioners for said town, who shall
|
 
|
serve for one year or until their successors shall have
|
 
|
been elected and qualified.
|
 
|
SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That no person shall be
|
 
|
eligible as commissioner of said town, unless he is
|

a holder of real estate, and shall have resided within

the limits of the same for at least one year next pre-
|
 
|
ceeding the election, and said commissioners shall

each give bond to said town of Laurel, in the penalty

|
of one thousand dollars for the faithful discharge of
|
 
|
their duties as such commissioners; and suit may be
|
 
|
brought thereon, in the name of said town, for any
|
 
|
violation of the condition of such bonds.

|
SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the commissioners
|
 
|
may, as often as deemed advisible, cause an assess-

appointed and paid by them, which assessment shall
|

not exceed the present assessment of the same pro-
