On motion of Mr. Seth,

The House then proceeded to the consideration of the next
order of the day,

Being,

The bill entitled an Act to suppress intemperance, and
to permit the voters of the City of Baltimore, and of each
county in the State of Maryland, to vote on the question of
granting licences to sell intoxicating liquors.

Said bill being upon a second reading,

Pending which,

Mr. Bird submitted the following amendment:

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Section 1, line 7, after the word "ingredients," insert
"without having obtained a license therefor, as hereinafter
provided."

Which was adopted.

Mr. Nicodemus submitted the following amendment:

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Section 1, line 18, strike out the words "one-half of."
Which was adopted.

Mr. Stewart, of Baltimore City, moved that the further
consideration thereof be postponed, and that said bill be re-
ferred to the Committee on the Judiciary.

The question recurring upon concurring in the motion,

Mr. Freaner demanded the yeas and nays.

The demand being sustained.
