The Speaker laid before the House the petition of J. W.
Wiley, Presiding Bishop of the Wilmington Annual Con-
ference of the M. E. Church, now in session at Salisbury,
Maryland, praying the passage of a Local Option Law, and
also certain Resolutions from the Committee on Temperance
of the same body upon the same subject.

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee
on Ways and Means.

Also,

The following communication from Hon. Joshua Vansant,
Mayor of the City of Baltimore, together with copy of Reso-
lution named therein:

MAYOR'S OFFICE, CITY HALL,

Baltimore, March 9th, 1874.
To the Honorable,

The General Assembly of Maryland:

GENTLEMEN:—I have the honor to transmit herewith a.
copy of a Resolution of the Mayor and City Council of Balti-
more, approved March 9th, 1874, requesting the representa-
tives of Baltimore City to the General Assembly of Maryland
to secure such legislative action as will promote the end sig-
nified in the body of the "Resolution in relation to Police
Commissioners and building of new Station-House" in Balti-
more City.

With high regard,
Your obt. servant,

JOSHUA VANSANT,

Mayor.

Which were severally read and referred to the Baltimore
City delegation.

Mr. Joyce presented the petition of Wm. Marquardt,
John J. Richardson and seven hundred others, against a Local
Option Law.

Also,

The petition of George Whelinberg, John Kurtz and
six hundred and thirty-eight others, against a Local Option,
Law.

Also,

The petition of Chas. H. Myers & Bro., Clabaugh &
Graff, Chas, Darrell & Co. and eight hundred and twenty-five
others, against a Local Option Law.

Which were severally read and referred to the Committee-
on Ways and Means.
