MONDAY, March 9th, 1874.

The House met and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Hedges.

Present at the cill of the roll, the following members :

Messrs. Hines, (Speaker,) Bond, Colton, Henkle, Robin-
son, Nutwell, Bird, Turner, of Calvert, Lancaster, Hawking,
Matthews, Merryman, Turner, of Baltimore county, Seth,
Valliant, Sudler, Coulbourn, Hodson, Etchison, Latchford,
Eobey, Kemp, Pruitt, Merrill, Miller, Lamar, Nico-
demus, Annan, Lee, McCosker, T. H. Hamilton, Cooper,
G. R. Hamilton, McWilliams, Staylor, Stewart, of Baltimore
city, McAleese, Grill, Hart, Loane, Greenfield, McColgan,
Harig, Joyce, Groh, Fenton, Stake, Clark, Watkins, Fletch-
all, Wier, Park, Brace, Waters, Vanderford, Brown, Maclin,
Stewart, of Howard, Leonard, West, Glotfelty—62.

The Speaker laid before the House a communication from
Hon. A. B. Davis, President Maryland Agricultural and
Mechanical Association, on the subject of Immigration,
together with copy of Resolutions therein named.

Which were severally read and referred the Committee on
Immigration.

Mr. Joyce presented the petition of P. H. Burk, Geo. W.
Whiting and three hundred and eighty-four other citizens,
against a Local Option Law.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. Greenfield presented the petition of Miss M. L. Puv-
viance, President, and the Board of Trustees, asking an ap-
propriation for the Aged Womens' Home.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. Gill presented the petition of Margaret Purviance and
others, asking for an appropriation for the Union Protestant
Infirmary.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Ways
and Means.

Mr. Fletchall presented the petition of Miss J. Pindle and
five other ladies of Montgomery county, for a Local Option and
Damage Law.

Also,

The petition of J. P. Ijams and ten other citizens, for a
Local Option and Damage Law.
