To the Hon. J. K. HINES,

Speaker of the House of Delegates of Maryland:

SIR:—The Committee appointed at the meeting of the citi-
zens of Baltimore, held at the Concordia Hall, on the
instant, in connection with the proposed' Celebration of the
One Hundreth Anniversary of the Independence of the
United States, adopted yesterday the following Resolution :

Resolved, That the Chairman be requested to address the
President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of
Delegates of Maryland, to ascertain whether it would be
agreeable to the Legislature to hold a meeting, at which
the objects of the Centennial Anniversary would be explained
by General Hawley, the President of the Centennial Com-
mission, and Colonel Boteler, a distinguished member
thereof; and if so, that the Legislature be must reapectfully
requested to name the time of meeting.

In performing the duty thus required .of me, J may be
permitted to express the hope that the Legislature will af-
ford the opportunity to the distinguished gentlemen here
named, of explaining At length an object which appeals to
the patriotic sympathies of every citizen of the Republic.

Which was read.

Mr. Freaner (the rules being suspended) submitted the
following order :

Ordered, That the use of the Hall of this House, be tender-
ed, on Wednesday night next, to the Committee appointed
at the Centennial meeting at Baltimore, for the purpose of
hearing addresses of General Hawley and Col. A. R. Boteler,
on the subject of the approaching Centennial Celebration.

Which was adopted.
