Dorchester, Kent, Caroline, Calvert, Anne Arundel, Prince
George's, Harford, Charles and Worcester counties, to cases
of assault and battery, and to extend the right of appeal, so
far as relates to Kent county.

Which was read a first time.

Mr. Gill, Chairman of a Select Committee, presented the
following communication from the Hon. Barnes Compton,
Treasurer elect of Maryland:

ANNAPOLIS, MD., Feb. 4th, 1874.
Gentlemen of the Committee :

Your favor of this date, notifying me of my election by
the General Assembly to the office of State Treasurer, just
received. Permit me, while declaring my purpose to accept
the office, to express through you to the General Assembly
of the State, my grateful acknowledgements for the honor
conferred, and to you individually, my warmest thanks for
the kind terms in which you have seen fit to convey this in-
formation.

Very respectfully, yours,

BARNES COMPTON.

To Messrs. Gill; Buchanan and Hodson, Committee on part
of the House, and Messrs. F. P. Stevens, T. S. Davis,
Committee on part of the Senate.

Which was read.

Mr. Fenton, Chairman of a Select Committee, reported
favorably,

A bill entitled an Act to alter and amend section 2
of an Act entitled an Act to authorize the bailding of a
bridge over the river Patapsco, at January session, 1856,
chapter 215.

Which was read a first time,

The bill entitled an Act to empower the Board of Trustees
of the Methodist Episcopal Church of Cumberland, to sell and
convey a certain lot of ground in said city,

Was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed for a
third readng.

The bill entitled an Act granting the sanction of the Gen-
eral Assembly of Maryland to the bequest of Hannah Horn,
late of Baltimore City, deceased, to the Maryland Conference
of the Methodist Protestant Church,

Was read a second time and ordered io be engrossed for a
third reading.
