may be indicted in the United States Court for acts done in
the performance of duties imposed, or in the exercise of rights
secured under the Constitution and Laws of this State, which
acts are alleged to be in violation of the Act of Congress ap-
proved May 31st, 1870, entitled an Act to enforce the right
of citizens of the United States to vote in the several States
of this Union, and for other purposes.

Also,

The bill entitled an Act to give the sanction of the General
Assembly of Maryland to the devise and bequest of Henry
Butler, to the Trustees of the African Methodist Episcopal
Church, of the City of Baltimore,

Endorsed, " Passed by yeas and nays, with proposed
amendment."

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

After the word "city," in the last line of the bill, insert
the following: "Provided, however, that out of said be-
quest there be paid to the estate of Heary Butler, the amount
due on a note dated October 6th, 1865, given in behalf of the
Trustees of said church, signed by W. D. W. Schureman
and others, to secure the loan of five hundred dollars, with
interest, made by said Butler in his lifetime to said church."

The Senate amendments were then adopted,
And the bill as amended passed by yeas and nays, as fol-
lows :
