REPORT.
The Committee of Conference of the two Houses, to whom
had been referred the action of their respective Bodies upon
the Joint Resolutions introduced in relation to the statue of
Chief Justice Taney, beg leave to report the following Joint
Resolutions as,the result of their Conference, and recommend
their adoption :
WHEREAS, It is proper and right, that the public services
of so good and great a man as the late Chief Justice Taney,
should be cherished and preserved in the memories of our
people, and kept before the youth of our State, as eminently
worthy of their emulation.
Be it Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
a Joint Special Committee of three on part of the Senate, and
four on part of the House of Delegates, he appointed to re-
quest the Committee appointed under the Act of the General
Assembly, A, D,, 1867, chapter 51, to appear in the Hall of
the House of Delegates on the 17th day of March next.
And that the Joint Special Committee be also authorized to
secure the services of some distinguished citizen of Maryland,
to deliver an oration on the life and public services of the
late Chief Justice ; and
Be it further Resolved, That the said Special Committee
be instructed to invite the Governor, the Judges of the Court
of Appeals, the Justices of the Supreme Court of the United
States, and other high officials of the States; as also the
family and relatives of the late Chief Justice, to be present
on the occasion.

The Report was adopted, and the Resolutions were read a
first time.
Mr. Loane, from the Committee on Ways and Means, to
whom was referred the memorial from the Trustees of the
Washington University, for aid from the State to assist in
paying a mortgage, reported unfavorably thereon, and the
report was concurred in.
Mr. Groome, Chairman of the Committee on the Judiciary,
to whom had been referred the bill entitled an Act to confirm
the devise and bequest of Benjamin Parsons, late of Wicomico
county, deceased, to the Vestry of Spring Hill Parish, for
certain uses and purposes therein named, reported favorably
thereon.
Said bill being upon a second reading,
