BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

January 14th, 1874.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

We have adopted the accompanying resolutions on that
part of the message of his Excellency the Governor, suggest-
ing that the statue of the late Chief Justice Taney, now locat-
ed in the Capitol Grounds, to be formally handed over to
the State by the Commissioners appointed under the Act of
the General Assembly of Maryland, 1867, chapter 71.

On the part of this House we have appointed Messrs.
Merryman, Freaner, McColgan and Groome, to join the gen-
tlemen who may be named by your Honorable Body to com-
pose the Committee contemplated by the first resolution.

Which was read, assented to, and sent to the Senate.

Mr. Nicodemus presented the petition of S. J. Ashton, C.
H. Buckhart, Cornelius Staley, and fifty-three other citizens
of Frederick county, for the passage of a law prohibiting the
sale of intoxicating liquors within two and a half miles of
Brook Hill Meeting-House, in Frederick county.

Which was read and referred to the Frederick county dele-
gation.

Mr. Koons presented the memorial of H. N. Lansdale and
others, of Frederick county, praying relief from unjust dis-
criminations in freight and transportation on the Baltimore
and Ohio Rail Road.

Which was read and reierred to the Committee on Agri-
culture.

Mr. Freaner presented the petition of the Leitersburg dis-
trict of Washington county, asking the passage of a law
authorizing the County Commissioners to reduce the assess-
ment of John Donohue's property.

Read and referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Hart presented the memorial of Elizabeth Yearkle,
widow of Jacob, for special Act for a pension; 95 years of
age; partially blind; war of 1812.

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Fowler presented the memorial of C. F. Fusting and
twenty-nine other citizens of Baltimore county, residing on
