WEDNESDAY, January 28, 1874.

Mr. Denson, from the Committee on Executive Nomina-
tions, to which had been referred the nomination of Dr. A.
T. Smoot, as County Commissioner for Charles county, vice
W. W. Wave, reported the Committee were of opinion that
said nomination ought to be confirmed.

Whereupon the Senate advised and consented to said ap-
pointment agreeably to the nomination of the 20th inst.

On motion by Mr. Denton,

The Senate resumed the consideration of Legislative busi-
ness.

TUESDAY, February 10, 1874.

The following communication which had been received
from His Excellency, Governor Whyte, by the hands of

Charles J. Pennington, Esq., Assistant Secretary of State,
was read:

STATE OF MARYLAND,

EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT.

Annapolis, February 9, 1874.
Gentlemen of the Senate of Maryland:

I have the honor to nominate J. A. Price, of Charles coun-
ty, to be Inspector of Tobacco at Warehouse No. 4, in Balti-
more city, to fill the vacancy until the 28th day of February,
1874, created by the resignation of Barnes Compton. which
takes effect, this day.

WM. PINKNEY WHYTE.

On motion by Mr. Mudd,
The Senate advised and consented to the aforegoing ap-
