CHAPTER 58.

 

An act to Incorporate the Linganore School House, and
House of Public Worship,

Passed Feb. 17 ,1834

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That George Riner and Michael Lease, of Fre-
derick county, and their successors, who shall be duly
elected in the manner herein after provided and directed,
be and they are hereby incorporated and made a body pol-
itic forever, by the name and style of the Trustees of the
Linganore School House and House of Public Worship,
by which name and style, the said Trustees and their suc-
cessors, shall be capable in any court of law or equity in
in this state, or before any justice of the peace, (provided
the matter in controversy is within the jurisdiction of jus-
tices of the peace,) to sue and be sued, defend and be de-
fended, answer and be answered, and to hold, whether ac-

quired by the purchase, gift or devise, property real, per-
sonal or mixed; Provided, it does not at any time exceed
fifteen hundred dollars in value, and the same to use, man-
age and employ, as they may deem most beneficial to car-
ry int'o effect the purposes of the said institution, and the
said Trustees and their successors, shall have fall power to
ordain and establish such rules and by laws as they shall
deem proper, which rules and by laws shall be binding on
all persons concerned in said institution, Provided, such
rules and by-laws, shall not be inconsistent with the con-
stitution of this state and of the United States.

Limit

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said Trustees, for
the time being shall call a meeting of the inhabitants of the
neighborhood, at said School House and House of Public
Worship, on the first Saturday in May, eighteen hundred
and thirty-four, or in thirty days thereafter, for the pur-

pose of electing a Trustee to fill the vacancy occasioned by
the resignation of Jacob Cronise, and also on the first Sat-
urday in May, eighteen thirty-five, or in thirty days there-
after, for the purpose of electing a Trustee in the place of
Michael Lease, whose term shall then expire, and also, to
