CHAPTER 49.

An act to authorise the Trustees of the Methodist Episcopal
Church in Frederick town to hold certain property to them
deeded.

Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, by a deed made and executed by Evan Car-
mack and Catharine Carmack his wife, dated November
the twenty second, eighteen hundred and thirty-three, to
Edward Buckey, George Salmon, George B. Shope, God-
fray Koontz, Somerset R. Waters, Frederick Cronise
and Horatio G. O'Neal, all of Frederick county, trustees
of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in Frederick town,
conveying to the said trustees a certain house and lot or
part of lots therein described, intended as a residence for
the preachers of said society, and containing between two
and three acres of land, and whereas, by the thirty-fourth
section of the declaration of rights, the said trustees are
incapable of holding the said property for the purposes

aforesaid, without the leave of the Legislature: Therefore,
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Edward Buckey, George Salmon, George B, Shope,
Godfrey Koontz, Somerset R. Waters, Frederick Cronise
and Horatio G. O'Neal, trustees of the Methodist Episco-
pal Church, in the city of Frederick, and their successors
forever, duly appointed according to the regulations of said
church, be and they are hereby authorised and empowered
to have and to hold the house and lot or parts of lots,
deeded to them by Evan Carmack and Catherine Carmack
his wife, by their deed bearing date the twenty second day
of November, one thousand eight hundred and thirty three,
according to the true intent and meaning of said instru-
ment, to exercise sole ownership over said property, for
the use, benefit, support and behoof of said church, and
that the said deed, when duly recorded in the clerk's office
of Frederick county, shall be good and valid, to all intents
and purposes,
