CHAPTER 273.

Passed Mar. 15,1834

An act to authorise the repair of the Bridge over Patapsco
Falls, at Ellicott's Old Upper Mills.

preamble

WHEREAS, it is represented to this general assembly,
by many of the citizens of Baltimore and Anne-Arundel
counties, that the Bridge over the Patapsco Falls, at Elli-
cott's Old Upper Mills, is in such a state of decay as to
become dangerous to travellers passing over it; — There-
fore,

Levy authorised

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the commissioners of Baltimore and An-
ne Arundel counties, be, and they are hereby authorised and
required to levy upon the assessable property of said coun-
ties, two hundred dollars, exclusive of commissions allow-
ed for collection, to be applied to the repair of the bridge
over the Patapsco Falls, at Ellicott's Old Upper Mills, one
moity of which sum of money, shall be levied on the asses-
sable property of Baltimore, and the other on that of Anne
Arundel counties, which said assessment shall be made
levied and collected in the same manner that other county

Application

levies are now made, and when collected, shall be paid
over by the commissioners of said counties, to the com-
missioners hereinafter appointed to contract for and su-
perintend the repair of the bridge aforesaid, or their order,
as the case may be, as soon as the same shall be collect-
ed.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That Charles W. Dorsey, and
George Burgess, of Anne-Arundel county, and Samuel
Hartley, and Asher Ely, of Baltimore county, be, and they
are hereby appointed commissioners, and they or a majori-
ty of them, are hereby authorised and required to contract
for, superintend and direct the repair of the bridge afore-
said, and to render to the commissioners of said counties
respectively, at their meeting next after the completion of
the said bridge, or within six months thereafter, a true,

full and fair account of all monies by them laid out and ex-
pended by virtue of this act, in repairing said bridge, and
the commissioners cf said counties, shall make such com-

pensation to the commissioners appointed by this act, as
they in their judgment's shall think proper.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the amount of money,
heretofore authorised and required to be levied by the
