about half an acre of land, more or less, and a small farm
in the neighbourhood of Centreville, being parts of the
tracts called Adventure, Bailey's Delight and Plain Deal-

chased of the commissioners appointed by Queen Anne's
county court, to divide a part of the real estate of Robert
Emory, formerly of the said county, deceased; AND
WHEREAS, the said intestate acquired by his industry, all
his said property after he obtained his freedom from slave-
ry, and all his said real estate, for want of issue and heirs
capable of inheriting the same, has become escheat to the
state; AND WHEREAS, Richard Tilghman Earle, of Queen
Anne's county, hath obtained an escheat warrant for the
lot in Centreville, conveyed by William Legg as aforesaid,
for the use of the vestry of St. Paul's Parish, in said coun-
ty, it being in contemplation to erect an Episcopal church
thereon, and moreover hath purchased the said lot of Jacob
Hambleton, the sole relation of the whole blood of the said
intestate, being the only child of his full brother, Adam
Hambleton, also an emancipated slave; AND WHEREAS,
Rachael Hambleton, of the said county, was married to the
intestate while he was held in bondage, and continued to
live with him for many years, and until the time of his

acauisition of his property; and it seems just and equitable
that the relatives of the intestate should enjoy the fruits of
his labor and industry, although incompetent under the
existing laws to inherit the same, — Therefore,
