general powers

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the said, Company and
their successors, by the aforesaid name, shall forever here-
after be able and capable in law, to sue and be sued, plead
and be impleaded, answer and be answered, defend and be
defended,in all or any courts of justice, whatsoever, and also
to have make, and use a common seal and the same to break
alter and renew at pleasure, and also to assemble and meet
at such times and places as they may agree upon, and also
from time to time to form and adopt such by laws and re-
gulations for the Government of said Company as they may
deem necessary and useful, the same not being contrary to
the laws of this state or of the United States, and general-
ly to do and execute all such acts, matters, and things as
to them shall appear necessary and proper for the purpo-
ses aforesaid.

 

CHAPTER 155.

Passed Mar. 6, 1834

An act entitled, a supplement to an act to make sale of the
poor's house and public lands thereto belonging, in Talbot
county.

Preamble

WHEREAS, by an act passed at December session, eigh-
teen hundred and twenty-four, chapter one hundred and
twelve, the justices of the levy court of Talbot county were
authorised and empowered to make sale of the poor's
house and the public lands appertaining thereto in said
county, AND WHEREAS, the justices of the levy court as
aforesaid have not been able to effect a sale of said
poor's house and the public lands on terms which they
deemed advantageous to the interest of the county, —
Therefore,

Authority to sell

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That all the powers vested by the above mentioned act in
the justices of the levy court of Talbot county, be and the
same are hereby extended to the commissioners for said
county, and the said commissioners are hereby further au-
thorised and empowered, if they shall deem it inexpedient
to sell the poor's house and public lands appertaining
thereto in Talbot county, to sell such part thereof only

To purchase

as they may deem expedient, and to purchase any or such
quantity of land adjoining or convenient to the same, for
