14 An act to restrain the sale of Ardent Spirits within the vil-
lage of Brookville, in Montgomery county
|
Clerk prohibited
|
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
from and after the passage of this act it shall not be law-
ful for the clerk of Montgomery county court to issue a
license to any person or persons to sell ardent spirits at any
place within the village of Brookville, in Montgomery
county, or within one and a half miles of said village,
without an order in writing from one of the Judges of said

court, who, is hereby authorised, to grant such order, if he
shall be satisfied, from the representation of respectable
inhabitants of said village, of the necessity and propriety
of granting such license, any law to the contrary notwith-
standing.

A further additional Supplement to the act, entitled, an act
to eject Baltimore. Town, in Baltimore county, into a City
and to incorporate the inhabitants thereof.

New assessments
authorised
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Ma-
ryland, That the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore,
shall have full power and authority whenever they may
deem it expedient to make a new assessment of all the pro-
perty, real and personal, within said city; and that the taxes
of said city shall be so laid and imposed upon the assess-

ment so made by the Mayor and City Council in such
manner as to them may seem proper, any thing in any for-
mer assessment law of the state to the contrary notwith-
standing.

Levy thereon
|
Sec. 2. And be il enacted, That all taxes which are now
or may hereafter be required or authorise by law to be
raised on the assessable property.of the city of Baltimore,
shall be levied and collected upon the assessment so to be
made; provided nevertheless, that the Mayor and City Coun-
cil of Baltimore, shall not in any one year impose and levy

a greater assessment than two hundred thousand dollars for
the purpose of defraying the corporation expenses, exelu-
sive of all others.
