LAWS OF MARYLAND.

CHAP. 109.

elected, and if any member should die or resign, the Gov-
ernor and Council shall fill the vacancy as now directed,
but which appointment shall not be valid longer than the
next election, when the people shall proceed to elect a
member of said court, who shall servers long as he whose
place he is thus called to fill, would have served and no
longer.

Compensation

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That each and every member
of the Levy court of Queen Anne's county hereafter elect,
ed shall bt entitled to receive for each and every day he
shall attend as member of said court, the sum of one dol-
lar and fifty cents, and in addition thereto an allowanc of
six and a quarter cents per mile, for every mile that his
place of residence shall be distant from the place of hold-
ing the Levy court, and that he shall be entitled to receive
mileage for each and every day he may attend as a member
of said court; Provided, that nothing in this act contained
shall be construed to allow any member of said court, mile-
age in returning to his residence.

Compensation to
clerks

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That the clerk to the Levy
court of Queen Anne's county shall be entitled to receive
as compensation for his services such sum annually as the
Levy court aforesaid, may deem proper, not to exceed
the sum of two hundred dollars, to be levied on the asses-
sable property of Queen Anne's county, to be collected and
paid over as other county charges are.

Book case

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That the Levy court are here-
by authorised and empowered to employ some proper per-
son to erect, or cause to be erected, and fitted up in the
Levy court room a suitable book case or cases, in which
the books, papers and documents belonging to the Levy
court, may be safely deposited and kept.

Copy to be furnish-
ed

Sec. 6. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the clerk of the Levy court to give a fair copy of the
amount of the taxable properly within any Primary School
District, and the manner in which it stands charged to each
individual, whenever he shall be so required to do by an
application in writing from the Trustees of such Primary
School District, the said Trustees accompanying the said
call with a list of all the inhabitants in said districts.

Repeal

Sec. 7. And be it enacted, That any law inconsistent with
the provisions of this act be, and the same is hereby re«
pealed.
