CHAPTER 495.
|
 
|
AN ACT to add an additional section to Article 54 of the
|
 
|
Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Land
|
 
|
Office," sub-title "Commissioner of the Land Office, His
|
 
|
Powers and Duties," to be designated as Section 2 A, pro-
|
 
|
viding for the appointment of an index clerk of the Preroga-
|
 
|
tive Court and High Court of Chancery Records.
|
 
|
WHEREAS, It is proposed to remove all the Prerogative
|

land, and there still remains twenty-one volumes of the pro-

ceedings of the Prerogative Court not yet indexed ; and

WHEREAS, The indexes to the one hundred and seventy-nine

twelve thousand bundles of cases of said court in the Land

Office are imperfect and unreliable, rendering access to the
|

titles to land therein contained inaccessible ; therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
|
 
|
land, That another section be added to Article 54 of the Code
|
 
|
of Public General Laws of Maryland, title "Land Office," sub-
|
 
|
title "Commissioner of the Land Office, His Powers and
|
 
|
Duties," to be designated as Section 2A.
|
 
|
2A. The Commissioner of the Land Office shall have power
|

to appoint a clerk to complete the indexing of the Prerogative

Court Records, indexing the Records of the Higher Court of
|
 
|
Chancery and such other indexing in the Land Office as may
|
 
|
be necessary, and shall receive a salary of one thousand dol-
|
 
|
lars per annum, and the sum of one thousand dollars, or as
|
 
|
much thereof as may be necessary, is hereby appropriated an-
|
 
|
nually for said purpose. Said clerk shall be under the control
|
 
|
of the Commissioner of the Land Office, and subject to re-
|
 
|
moval at any time, as other clerks in the Land Office.
|
 
|
SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
|
 
|
from the date of its passage.
