CHAPTER 367.
|
 
|
AN ACT to repeal Section 192 of Article 22 of the Code of
|
 
|
Public Local Laws, title "Washington County," sub-title
|
 
|
"Hagerstown," as amended by the Acts of 1900, Chapter
|
 
|
391, and to re-enact the same with amendments.
|
 
|
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
|
 
|
land, That Section 192 of Article 22 of the Code of Public
|
Hagerstown.
|
Local Laws, title "Washington County," sub-title "Hagers-

town," as amended by the Acts of 1900, Chapter 391, be and the
|
 
|
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted with amendments so
|
 
|
as to read as follows :
|
Appointment
|
192. The Board of Street Commissioners shall appoint reg-
|
of police and
their salarie
|
ular policemen, not exceeding ten, and the said Street Commis-
|
 
|
sioners shall designate one of the number as "Chief" or "Cap-
|
 
|
tain," and another as "Lieutenant." The said policemen shall
|
 
|
serve under such regulations and for such compensation as the
|
 
|
Board of Street Commissioners may direct ; such compensa-
|
 
|
tion, however, not to exceed the sum of seventy-five dollars
|
 
|
per month and not less than forty dollars per month, and said
|
 
|
policemen shall be subject to removal for cause; they shall have
|
 
|
power to appoint special policemen if in their judgment the
|
 
|
exigencies of the town shall require it; provided, however,
|
 
|
that the term of appointment of such special policemen shall
|
 
|
not exceed a period of six days. The fire marshal and assist-
|
 
|
ant fire marshals provided for by ordinance of the Mayor and
|
 
|
Council of Hagerstown, for the more effectual discharge of
|
 
|
their duties and the protection of property, shall, during the time
|
 
|
of fires, have all the powers of a policeman of the town of
|
Fire Marshal
|
Hagerstown, and said fire marshal and assistant marshals shall
|
 
|
take the oath prescribed for policemen of said town and shall
|
 
|
serve without pay.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this Act shall take effect
|
 
|
from the date of its passage.
