WHEREAS, Roger Brooke Taney, a distinguished son of

successively filled the offices of Attorney-General of the State

of Maryland and Attorney-General of the United States of

America; and

WHEREAS, The said Roger Brooke Taney was, on the 15th

day of March, 1836, commissioned as Chief Justice of the Su-

filled with great distinction and marked ability until the time

of his death, which occurred on the 12th day of October in the

WHEREAS, The State of Maryland, in recognition of his

great public services, has caused to be erected upon the State

House hill at Annapolis, Maryland, a bronze statue upon a
|
 
|
granite pedestal, upon which some suitable inscription should
|
 
|
be placed; therefore; be it
|
 
|
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
|
 
|
Superintendent of Public Buildings be and he is hereby author-
|
 
|
ized and directed to cause to be inscribed by some skilled artisan
|
 
|
upon the front of said pedestal the following :
|
