Be it further resolved, That in testimony of his distinguished

services in Africa and at Alexandria, that the Governor is here-
|

by authorized and required to have made a gold medal of the

size of one silver half-dollar, with appropriate device and
|
 
|
motto, also a copy of these resolutions properly inscribed, and
|
 
|
cause the same to be presented to Colonel Charles Chaille Long
|
 
|
in testimony of the high sense of his services entertained by
|
 
|
the General Assembly of the State of Maryland.

Joint Resolution requesting the Senators and Representatives
|
 
|
from the State of Maryland in Congress to use their best
|
 
|
effort to secure one of the National Encampments, as pro-
|
 
|
vided by the Act of Congress, in Garrett County, Maryland.
|
 
|
WHEREAS, It has been provided by an Act of the Congress of
|
 
|
the United States that four army camps shall be selected in the
|
National en-
campment.
|
several sections of the United States for the rendezvous of
|
 
|
National Guardsmen from the several States and the United
|
 
|
States troops; and
|
 
|
WHEREAS, Garrett County, Maryland, near Oakland, has
|
 
|
offered a site to the Government on the most reasonable terms,
|

with an abundance of cheap land, drained by beautiful streams
|

of water, and a climate that cannot be surpassed in the United
|
same.

States, of sufficient distance from the large cities, located on

one of the great trunk lines of railroad, and within direct com-

munication with the City of Washington, it is deemed eminently
|
 
|
fitted for the holding of such encampment, and especially for
|
 
|
the health and discipline of the troops ; now, therefore, be it
|
 
|
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the
|
 
|
Senators and Representatives from Maryland in Congress be
|
Urging Mary-
land's claims

and they are hereby urgently requested to use their best efforts
|
in Congress.

to make known to the proper authorities at Washington of the
|
 
|
advantages known by the site in Garrett County, Maryland,
|
 
|
for one of the army camps provided for in the aforesaid Act
|
 
|
of Congress, and to use all possible effort to secure the location
|
 
|
of said encampment in said Garrett County.
