COUNCIL.

1846. The Council shall be composed of four members, who
|
 
|
|
shall be elected as hereinbefore provided, and shall hold their
|
City Council.

office from the first Monday in June, of each year, next after

their election, for two years, or until their successors are
|
 
|
|
duly elected and qualified; before entering upon their duties
|
 
|

the Councilmen shall make oath before the Mayor that they will
|

diligently perform the duties required of them by law as mem-
|
 
|
|
bers of the Council without partiality or prejudice. Any per-
|
 
|
|
son having the qualifications prescribed in the paragraph
|
 
|
|
of this Act bearing the sub-title "Election," and who shall
|
 
|
|
be assessed upon the books of the corporation with not less
|
 
|
|
than one hundred dollars' worth of property, real or personal,
|
 
|
|
shall be eligible as a member of the Council. The Council shall
|
 
|
|
meet on the first Monday in each month, and at such other
|
 
|
|
times as it may be necessary for public business. Members of
|
 
|
|
the Council shall receive five dollars each, annually, for at-
|
 
|
|
tending the sessions of the Council or attending to the other

three judges of election and two clerks for the purpose of hold-

ing each general or special election which may be held under

the provisions of this Act or the ordinances passed in pursu-

conduct the election in all respects as such elections are usually

held, first taking oath as required by law before the Mayor to

faithfully perform their several duties respectively and making
|

return under their hands and seals to the clerk of said corpo-
|
 
|
|
ration of the persons elected. The polls shall be open at
|
 
|
|
one o'clock in the afternoon and close at seven o'clock in the
|
 
|
|
evening, and the judges and clerks shall receive such com-
|
 
|
|
pensation as shall be provided by the Mayor and City Council.

If any vacancy shall occur in the Council from any cause, the
|
