at the station house for which he was appointed and shall at-

 

tend said station house every day (Sundays excepted) at such

 

hours and times as his duties may require, or as he may be

 

required to do by the County Commissioners or by the State's

 

Attorney for Baltimore County; when any such justice ap-

 

pointed to sit at any of the station houses aforesaid shall desig-

 

nate any other justice of the peace to act for him in his ab-

 

sence, it shall first be necessary for him to obtain the consent

 

of the County Commissioners allowing such justice to act

 

for him; the said justice of the peace so selected to sit at the

 

station house at Canton in the 12th Election District shall

 

transact only criminal business at such station house, and no

 

civil business whatsoever, except such affidavits and acknowl-

 

edgments in civil matters as he may from time to time be re-

 

quired to take for the convenience of the public ; and for any

 

violation of this provision he shall be liable to indictment by

 

the grand jury of said county, and on conviction shall be fined

 

one hundred dollars and shall be disqualified from holding

 

his office.

within said county, and shall have jurisdiction in all prosecu-

 

tions or proceedings for the recovery of any penalty for doing

 

or omitting to do any act, the doing of which or the omission

 

to do which, is made punishable under the laws of this State,

 

within their said jurisdiction by any pecuniary fine or penalty,
