Commissioners, and who shall be ex officio chairman of all

committees appointed by said Commissioners; they may meet

SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the said Commissioners of

day of election, three judges to hold election; they shall keep

the polls open from five o'clock until eight o'clock in the

as may be consistent with the provisions of this Act, and the

said judges shall make returns under their oaths, hands and

of the persons elected and the positions to which they have
|

been elected.

|
SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That the said Commissioners,
|
 
|
|
or a majority of them, shall define the duties of clerk and
|
 
|
|
bailiff, and allow them such compensation for their services

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That the said Commissioners,
|

or a majority of them, shall have full power and authority

to appoint a treasurer and an attorney for said town,

and fix the compensation of such officers; and they shall

also have power to appoint policemen and other officers as

shall serve warrants and make arrests for violations of the
|

ordinances of said town, and it shall be their duty to preserve

the peace and good order of said town, and for these pur-

poses the said bailiff and policeman are hereby vested with
|
 
|

the same power and authority as constables of said county

|
|
now have under the laws of this State, and said policemen
|
 
|
|
and other officers shall receive such reasonable compensation
|
 
|
|
as said Commissioners shall deem proper, and said bailiff,
|
 
|
|
policeman and treasurer appointed under this section shall,
|
 
|
|
before entering upon the duties of their office, make oath
|
 
|
|
before the said Commissioners that they will faithfully and
|
 
|
|
impartially perform the duties required of them respectively
