1844. 91 duly elected Electors of President and Vice President of the United States, for the State of Maryland at the Election held on the Second Day of November 1840. Given under my Hand, and the Great Seal of the State this Fourth Day of December 1844. Francis Thomas By the Governor Governor of Maryland. William V. Buskirk Secretary of State. On motion of Mr. Hambleton, the Secretary was directed to prepare three certificates agreeably to the following Form towit: To the Honorable, the President of the Senate of the United States of America. We, the undersigned duly elected Electors of President and Vice President of the United States of America, in and for the State of Maryland, as will fully appear by reference to the annexed Document, being the Certificate furnished by the Executive Authority of the State of Maryland, do hereby certify that on the First Wednesday in December, in the year one Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty four, we met at the City of Annapolis, in said State, being the place, where by the Laws of the State of Maryland, the Electors of President and Vice President of the United States, on the part of said State, are directed to meet to perform the trust reposed in them; and that, then and there, having duly qualified and organized, Henry Clay, of the State of Kentucky was put in nomination for President of the United States of America for the four years from and after the Third Day of March next ensuing; that, we then and there in pursuance of the Constitution and Laws of the United States, proceeded to vote by ballots for President of the United States of America; and upon counting the ballots it was ascertained that Henry Clay, of the State of Kentucky, received Eight votes for President of the United States of America. That we then proceeded to vote by district ballots for Vice President of the United States of America, and upon counting the ballots it was ascertained that Theodore Frelinghuysen, of the State of New York received Eight votes for Vice President of the United States of America. The annexed Lists of the said Persons, with the votes given to the same, are hereby returned by us, the Electors of President and Vice President of the United States, in and for the State of Maryland in pursuance of the Constitution and Laws of the United States, as having the aforesaid number of votes. Done at the City of Annapolis on the First Wednesday in December, being the Fourth Day of the Month, in the year one Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty four.
