Proceedings of the Electors of President and Vice President of the United States of America In and for the State of Maryland 1844. State of Maryland, Towit: On the First Wednesday in December, the Fourth Day of the said Month in the year One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty four, being the Day appointed by the Constitution and Laws of the United States, in which the Electors of President and Vice President of the United States of America are directed to assemble and perform the trust reposed in them, there appeared in the Senate Chamber, in the City of Annapolis the place designated by Act of Assembly for the meeting of the said Electors, the following Gentlemen, who had been proclaimed by the Executive Authority of the State to have been duly elected Electors of President and Vice President of the United States in and for the State of Maryland, towit: James B. Ricaud, of Kent County. William Lingan Gaither, of Montgomery County. Thomas S. Alexander, of Baltimore City. William Price, of Allegany County. Charles R. Stewart, of Anne Arundel County. (Howard District.) Augustus W. Bradford, of Baltimore City. Henry E. Wright, of Queen Anne's County. Samuel Hambleton Junior, of Talbot County. The said Electors qualified by taking the oath prescribed by Law and by declaring their belief in the Christian Religion. On motion of Mr. Hambleton the Electors temporarily organized by calling Mr. Price to the Chair, and appointing Jos. H. Nicholson Secretary. On motion of Mr. Gaither, the Electors ballot for a presiding officer; whereupon, Mr. Price was duly elected. On motion of Mr. Ricaud the Electors ballot for a Secretary; whereupon |
