79. proclaimed by the Executive Authority of this State, to have been duly elected an Elector of President and Vice President of the United States, in and for the State of Maryland, appeared in the Senate chamber and qualified by taking the oaths required by the Constitution and Laws of this State, and by declaring his belief in the Christian Religion. On motion of Mr. John Leeds Kerr, The Electors proceeded to ballot for President; and by district ballots for Vice President of the United States. On motion of Mr. John Leeds Kerr, William Henry Harrison, of the State of Ohio, was put in nomination for President of the United States: The ballots of the Electors were then deposited in the ballot box, which was delivered by the President to Messrs. John Leeds Kerr and John P. Kennedy who were charged to count the ballots and report the result; after a time, they reported that on examination, they had found there had been ten ballots given for President of the United States, all of which were for William Henry Harrison of the State of Ohio. Whereupon it was declared that William Henry Harrison, of the State of Ohio, had received Ten votes for President of the United States from and after the Third day of March next ensuing; being the whole number to which the State of Maryland is entitled. On motion of Mr. William T. Wootton, John Tyler of the State of Virginia, was put in nomination for Vice President of the United States. The ballots of the Electors were again deposited in the ballot box, which were delivered by the President to Messrs. John Leeds Kerr and John P. Kennedy, who were charged to count the ballots and report the result; after a time they reported that on examination they had found there had been ten ballots given for Vice President of the United States, all of which were for John Tyler of the State of Virginia. Whereupon, it was declared that John Tyler, of the State of Virginia, had received Ten votes for Vice President of the United States from and after the Third day of March next ensuing, being the whole number to which the State of Maryland is entitled.
