157 To the three Certificates prepared by the Secretary according to the aforegoing form the Secretary attached severally one of the Certificates furnished by the Executive Authority of the State in obedience to an Act of Congress of 1792 ch. 109. The said Certificates together with the Lists were duly signed and sealed by the Electors. They were then folded and sealed and directed to the President of the Senate of the United States Washington with the following memorandum signed by each Elector. " This package contains the lists of all the votes of the Electors, appointed for the State of Maryland, given for President of the United States and the lists of all the votes of said Electors given for the Vice President of the United States. Whereupon the President delivered one of said Certificates to Hon. R. W. W. Bowie one of the Electors to be by him deposited in the Post office in the City of Annapolis and one other of the said Certificates to the Hon. William H. Welsh (another of the Electors) to be by him conveyed and delivered to the Judge of the District Court of the United States for the District of Maryland. On motion of Mr. Waters the following form of Credential was read and adopted. State of Maryland to Wit To all persons whom it may Concern Know ye that we the Electors of President and Vice President of the United States of America duly elected in and for the State of Maryland having met at the City of Annapolis on the day prescribed by the Constitution and Laws of the United States to perform the trust reposed in us and having voted and made out in due form Certificates and lists of the votes given and the persons voted for and having Confidence |
