Harrison served the shortest presidential
term in history; took oath on March 4,1841,
died April 4, 1841. First modern presidential
election; almost a million more persons went
to the polls than in 1836-the first election in
which any candidate received more than a
million votes.

Tyler was the first President by act of God.
He took over the title and duties upon the
death of Harrison. He had much trouble
with his own party - Whig - who expelled
him and tried to impeach him. In 1844, no
party would nominate him. He organized a
new states-rights party but withdrew at the
urging of Jackson.
