without delay, deliver all such public letters and packets as may be directed to
any person or persons residing in his county to such person or persons, and take
a receipt for the same, and shall, without delay, deliver all such public letters
and packets as may be directed to any person or persons residing in Charles and
Saint-Mary's counties, to the sheriff of Charles county, and take a receipt for
the same; and the sheriff of Charles county shall, without delay, deliver all such
public letters and packets as may be directed to any person or persons residing in
his county to such person or persons, and take a receipt for the same, and shall,
without delay, deliver all such letters and packets as may be directed to any person
or persons in Saint-Mary's county, to the sheriff of sid county, and take a
receipt for the same; and the sheriff of Saint-Mary's county shall, without delay,
deliver all such public letters and packets as may be directed to any person or
persons residing in his county to such person or persons, and take a receipt for
the same; and the sheriff of Prince-George's county shall, without delay, deliver
all such public letters and packets as may be directed to any person or persons residing
in Montgomery county, to the sheriff of Montgomery county, and take a
receipt for the same; and the sheriff of Montgomery county shall, without delay,
deliver all such public letters and packets as may be directed to any person or
persons residing in his county, and take a receipt for the same; and the sheriff of
Anne-Arundel county shall, without delay, deliver all such public letters and
packets as may be directed to any person or persons residing in Baltimore, Harford,
Frederick, Washington, and Allegany counties, to the sheriff of Baltimore
county, and take a receipt for the same; and the sheriff of Baltimore county
shall, without delay, deliver all such public letters and packets as may be directed
to any person or persons residing in his county to such person or persons, and
take a receipt for the same, and shall, without delay, deliver all such public letters
and packets as may be directed to any person or persons residing in Harford
county, to the sheriff of Harford county, and take a receipt for the same; and
the sheriff of Harford county shall, without delay, deliver all such public letters
and packets directed to any person or persons residing in his county to such person
or persons, and take a receipt for the same; and the sheriff of Baltimore
county shall, without delay, deliver all such public letters and packets as may be
directed to any person or persons residing in Frederick, Washington, and Allegany
counties, to the sheriff of Frederick county, and take a receipt for the same;
and the sheriff of Frederick county shall, without delay, deliver all such public
letters and packets to any person or persons residing in his county to such person
or persons, and take a receipt for the same; and shall, without delay, deliver all
such public letters and packets as may be directed to any person or persons residing
in Washington and Allegany counties, to the sheriff of Washington county,
and take a receipt for the same; and the sheriff of Washington county shall,
without delay, deliver all such public letters and packets as may be directed to
any person or persons residing in his county to such person or persons, and take
a receipt for the same, and shall, without delay, deliver all such public letters and
packets as may be directed to any person or persons residing in Allegany county,
to the sheriff of Allegany county, and take a receipt for the same, and the sheriff
of Allegany shall, without delay, deliver all such public letters and
packets as may be directed to any person or persons residing in his county to
such person or persons, and take a receipt for the same.

    LI.

    VIII.  And, to enforce the due execution of this act, Be it enacted, That all
sheriffs receiving such public letters or packets, shall endorse, on the back thereof,
the time they received the same, and shall give receipts, when required, with the
time of delivery therein mentioned, and shall, in all things, comply with the
directions herein before contained, under the penalty of fifty pounds current money
for every neglect or refusal, to be recovered and applied as heretofore by law
is directed; and such sheriff shall not be entitled to the reward herein after given
them, without producing to the committee of claims the receipts by this act enjoined
to be taken, any thing to the contrary thereof notwithstanding.

    IX.  And be it enacted, That the several sheriffs shall receive, as a reward for
their trouble, the several sums hereafter expressed; that is to say, to the sheriff
