XXXII.

                                LAWS of MARYLAND.

at Charlton's Gap, in the South Mountain, through Liberty-town to meet the
Baltimore road near Philemon Barns's; one other road from Frederick-town to
cross Monocacy at Rice's ford, thence by Hobb's', through a part of Baltimore
county to the line of Anne-Arundel county, in a direction to meet the turnpike
road to be laid out from Baltimore to Frederick-town under an act, entitled, An
act to lay out several turnpike roads in Baltimore county; one other road from
Frederick-town to Harper's ferry, on Patowmack; one other road from Frederick-town
towards George-town to the line of Montgomery county; one other
road from the termination of the last mentioned road to George-town; one other
road from George-town to the Mouth of Monocacy, and from the Mouth of
Monocacy to the court-house in said county; and one other road from Elizabeth-town
to the Pennsylvania line in Nicholson's Gap.

Commissioners
appointed.
    III.  And be it enacted, That Richard Snowden Thomas, Thomas Massett
and Jacob Hollingsworth, be and are hereby appointed commissioners on the
first aforementioned road in Cæcil county, and Robert Milligan, Edward Oldham
and Samuel Glenn, be and are hereby appointed commissioners on the second
road in Cæcil county aforesaid; that John Ellicot, Robert Long and Nicholas
Randall, be and are hereby appointed commissioners on the third aforementioned
road; that James Beatty, Abraham Huff and Robert Cummings, be and are 
hereby appointed commissioners on the fourth aforementioned road; that Joseph
Swearingen, Peter Bainbridge and Benjamin Beckwith, be and are hereby appointed
commissioners on the fifth aforementioned road; that Conrod Hogmire,
Philip Erhart and Daniel Winders, be and are hereby appointed commissioners
on the sixth aforementioned roads; that William Runner, Barton Garret and
John Hillary, be and are hereby appointed commissioners on the seventh and thirteenth
aforementioned roads; that Conrod Nicodemus, Jonas Hogmire and William
Van Lear, and are hereby appointed commissioners on the eighth aforementioned
road; that Ludwick Young, William Lee and Joseph Sprigg, junior,
be and are hereby appointed commissioners on the ninth and seventeenth aforementioned
roads; that Martin Karsner, Denton Jacques and Rezin Davis, be
and are hereby appointed commissioners on the tenth aforementioned road; that
Conrod Duddero, Joseph Wood and Michael Boyer, be and are hereby appointed
commissioners on the eleventh aforementioned road; that William Hobbs, Nicholas
Hall and William Ballinger, be and are hereby appointed commissioners
on the twelfth aforementioned road; that Thomas Sprigg, Roger Johnson and
Thomas Darnall, be and are hereby appointed commissioners on the fourteenth
aforementioned road; that Henry Brookes, Walter Clagett and Benjamin Edwards,
for the fifteenth and sixteenth aforementioned roads.
Justices to levy
money,
&c.
    IV.  And be it enacted, That the justices of the said several counties of Cæcil,
Montgomery, Frederick and Washington, in their respective courts sitting, (except
Baltimore county court) to be held next after the first day of March next,
and thereafter in the last court of the year annually, shall levy a sum of money
not exceeding the sum of three shillings and nine-pence current money on every
hundred pounds worth of assessable property in each of the said counties, except
in Montgomery county, and the justices of Montgomery court shall levy a sum
of money not exceeding two shillings current money on every hundred pounds
worth of assessable property in said county, to be collected in the same manner, at
the same times, and by the same persons, as other county taxes are collected, and
shall be paid quarter-yearly into the hands of supervisors, to be appointed in manner
herein after mentioned; provided, that no property in Frederick county subject
to be taxed for the purpose of repairing the streets and alleys in Frederick-town,
shall be subject to be taxed under this law, further than a sum which, being
added to the tax aforesaid, will amount in the whole to the sum of three shillings
and nine-pence current money.
Commissioners

    V.  And be it enacted, That the commissioners to be appointed as aforesaid for
each of the roads aforesaid, or a majority of them, (except for Baltimore county)
shall, within four months after the first day of January next, lay out, survey,
mark and bound, the roads for which they are respectively appointed, of the
