CHAP. XXVII.
An ACT to empower Anthony Addison and Overton Carr, of
Prince-George's county, to sell and dispose of the
personal
property of Henry Addison Callis. |
Preamble. |
WHEREAS it is represented to this general assembly,
by the petition
of Anthony Addison and Overton Carr, that they were appointed
trustees and guardians to Henry Addison Callis, and that the said
Henry Addison Callis is a minor, and possessed of sundry personal property,
consisting of negroes, stock, &c. and that the said minor is not
seized of any
real estate to work the same on, and praying that they may be empowered
to sell
the personal property aforesaid for the benefit of the said Henry Addison
Callis;
and it appearing to this general assembly that it would be greatly
conducive to
the interest of the said minor to sell the property aforesaid, |

be sold, &c. |
II. Be it enacted,
by
the General Assembly of Maryland, That the said Anthony
Addison and Overton Carr be and they are hereby empowered to sell the
personal property of Henry Addison Callis, or such part thereof as
they may
think proper, on three years credit, first giving six weeks notice
in the Maryland
Gazette, the purchasers giving bond with good security, for the benefit
of the
said Henry Addison Callis, and the money arising from the same to be
appropriated
to the use and for the benefit of the said Henry Addison Callis. |
Bonds not to
be assigned,
&c. |
III. And be
it enacted, That the bonds taken for the property aforesaid shall
not be assigned or transferred to any person or persons by the trustees
of the said
minor, but they may be renewed, and shall be kept for his use and benefit;
and
such part of the money due on said bonds as shall be necessary for
the maintenance
and education of the said minor, shall be appropriated to that purpose
by the said trustees. |
Proviso. |
IV. Provided
always, That the said Anthony Addison and Overton Carr shall,
before they make sale of the personal property aforesaid, enter into
bond, payable
to the said Henry Addison Callis, in such penalty and with such security
as the
justices of the orphans court of Prince-George's county shall direct,
well and
faithfully to account annually before the said orphans court for the
net proceeds
of the said sales, and in all other respects to conform themselves
to the directions
contained in an act of assembly passed at November session, seventeen
hundred
and eighty-five, entitled, An act to alter and amend the law in certain
cases. |

CHAP. XXVIII.
An ACT to authorise and empower the justices of Prince-George's
county to assess and levy on the inhabitants of
said county the
sum of one hundred and fifty pounds current money,
for the
purposes therein mentioned. |
Justices to
levy money,
&c. |
BE it enacted,
by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the justices of
Prince-George's county, or any three or more of them, be and they are
hereby authorised and empowered, at their next levy laying court, to
assess and levy on the owners of property in said county, a sum not exceeding
one
hundred and fifty pounds current money, for the purpose of erecting a safe,
substantial,
and durable bridge over the eastern branch of Patowmack river, near
the town of Bladensburgh, where the same is crossed by the great post road
leading
from the said town to George-town; and that the said sum, together with
the usual commission, be collected in the same manner in which other county
charges are collected. |
And contract
for building
a bridge, &c. |
II. And be it
enacted, That the said justices are hereby authorised and empowered
to contract with a proper person or persons to build the said bridge in
a
good, substantial and workman-like manner; which said person or persons,
so
employed, shall give bond with sufficient security, to be approved of by
the said
justices, in the penalty of five hundred and fifty pounds, to build and
complete
the same as aforesaid. |
