At a SESSION of the GENERAL ASSEMBLY 
    of MARYLAND, begun and held at the City of
    ANNAPOLIS on Monday the fifth of November,

    and ended the seventeenth of December, in the
    year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and
    eighty-seven, the following LAWS were enacted:

            WILLIAM SMALLWOOD, Esq; Governor.

                                            CHAP. I.
An ACT to enable the governor to issue commissions of oyer and
                    terminer and gaol delivery in certain cases.

26.
    WHEREAS from the present insecure situation of many of the public
gaols of this state, and the great hazard and danger of keeping prisoners
until they are brought to trial at the stated and fixed times of
holding courts, as established by law, it is thought reasonable, for the more effectually
expediting of justice, that the governor be invested with power to issue
commissioners of oyer and terminer and gaol delivery:
Preamble.
    II.  Be it enacted, by the general assembly of Maryland, That the governor
for the time being, upon application being made, shall have full power and authority
to issue commissions of oyer and terminer and gaol delivery, for the trial of
all crimes, offences and misdemeanors, whatsoever, that have arisen or may arise
in any county within this state, whenever it shall appear to him that there is a
necessity such commission should issue.

    III.  This act to continue three years, and until the end of the next session of
assembly which shall happen thereafter.

                                            CHAP. II.
        An ACT for the adjournment of Baltimore county court.

6.
    WHEREAS Baltimore November county court stood adjourned till the
first Monday in December, and several persons having business in
said court are members of the general assembly, and obliged to attend
their duty therein:
Preamble.
    II.  Be it enacted, by the general assembly of Maryland, That all causes,
pleas, proceedings, now depending and returnable to the said November
court, shall be, and by virtue of this act, adjourned and continued to the
third Monday in this present month of December; and that all the said causes,
pleas, process and proceedings, in the said court now depending, and returnable
to the said November court, shall be in the same state and condition as they
would be in on the said first Monday in December, any thing to the contrary
notwithstanding.

                                            CHAP. III.
An ACT to repeal part of an at, entitled, An act to appropriate
    certain land to the use of the officers and soldiers of this state,
    and for the sale of vacant lands.

    BE it enacted, by the general assembly of Maryland, That the following
words of the above mentioned act, to wit, " And before any grant shall
issue on any certificate expressing more than one boundary for the beginning,
the owner shall make oath, or affirmation, (as the case may be) that he
