                                LAWS of MARYLAND.

which the said John Rolph and Benjamin Hatchinson are liable;
wherefore they have prayed, that an act may pass, empowering them to
collect such sums of money and tobacco, as may be due to the said
Thomas Boyer as sheriff of the county aforesaid, for the year last aforesaid,
in the same manner as he himself could have done; and it appearing reasonable,
that the prayer of the said petition should be granted, Be it enacted,
That the said John Rolph and Benjamin Hatchinson, and each of
them, their and each of their executors and administrators, shall be, and
they are hereby authorised and empowered, to take, demand, receive and
collect, all such sums of money, or quantities of tobacco, as may be due
to the said Thomas Boyer as sheriff of the county aforesaid, for the year
aforesaid, for which the said John Rolph and Benjamin Hatchinson may
be liable for as securities, as aforesaid, by distress and sale, or otherwise, in
as full and ample manner as the said Thomas Boyer could have done was
he now living and his office of sheriff was unexpired.


 
 

Further time
allowed, &c.

    IV.  And, whereas from the particular circumstances of the case it would
be reasonable and just to allow a further time to the aforesaid William
Maxwell and William Rasin to collect the public assessment due and in
arrear for the year seventeen hundred and eighty-four, Be it enacted,
That the said William Maxwell and William Rasin shall be allowed
until the tenth day of May next, to make the said collection for the year
seventeen hundred and eighty-four, and that they be allowed the same
commission upon the collection of the residue of the said assessment, and
all other public monies which they are empowered by this act to collect,
where the said Thomas Boyer has not already been allowed commissions,
for the collection thereof, as the said Thomas Boyer would have been

I. Redgrave to
receive and
collect, &c.

    V.  And, whereas it is also represented to this general assembly, by the
petition of Isaac Redgrave and Benjamin Hatchinson, of Kent county
aforesaid, that the said Thomas Boyer was appointed collector of the
public assessment of said county for the year seventeen hundred and eighty-five,
and for the faithful execution and performance of the duties of the
office, entered into bond with the said Isaac Redgrave and Benjamin
Hatchinson his securities, as the law directs, on the twenty-sixth day of
March seventeen hundred and eighty-five aforesaid:  And whereas it is
also represented, by the petition of Isaac Redgrave and John Wallis, of
the county aforesaid, that the said Thomas Boyer, on the twenty-ninth
day of July seventeen hundred and eighty-five, entered into bond for the
due execution of his office as collector of the county rate for the year then
ensuing, with them the said Isaac Redgrave and John Wallis, as the law
required, and that for the reasons herein before mentioned, the said Thomas
Boyer having not finished the business of either of his said offices as
collector of the public assessment, and collector of the county rate aforesaid,
for the year last aforesaid, and divers and large sums of money are
still due to him in virtue of the said offices, for which the said Isaac Redgrave,
Benjamin Hatchinson and John Wallis, are respectively as aforesaid
liable; wherefore the said Isaac Redgrave, Benjamin Hatchinson and
John Wallis, have prayed, that an act may pass, empowering the said
Isaac Redgrave to collect the several sums of money due as aforesaid to the
said Thomas Boyer in virtue of his offices aforesaid, for the year last aforesaid,
in the same manner as he the said Thomas Boyer might do was he
living and his offices aforesaid unexpired; and that under the particular
and peculiar circumstances of their cases, a further time may be allowed
to the said Isaac Redgrave to collect the sums of money due as aforesaid;
and it appearing reasonable that the prayers of the said petition should
be granted, Be it enacted, That the said Isaac Redgrave shall be and is
hereby authorised and empowered, to take, demand, receive and collect,
