CHAP. XXVIII.
An ACT to settle and pay the civil list, and the other expences of
civil government.

CHAP. XXIX.
An ACT to repeal the taxes and duties imposed and appropriated for
the redemption
of the bills of credit emitted in the years seventeen
hundred and eighty and
seventeen hundred and eighty-one.
All the taxes and duties, appropriated
to the said purpose, are repealed, with a proviso, that the arrears
due shall, notwithstanding, be collected. |

CHAP. XXX.
An ACT to enable the visitors of Talbot county school to sell the lands
belonging
to the said school.
They are allowed to do this in order
that the funds of the school may be consolidated with those of
Washington college, the school-house having been lately burnt down, and
the county having thereby become
destitute of a seminary of learning. They may sell on any terms they
shall think proper; but the
money is, in the first place, to be applied to the payment of their debts. |

CHAP. XXXI.
An ACT for the payment of the journal of accounts. |

CHAP. XXXII.
An ACT to continue
the acts of assembly therein mentioned. |

CHAP. XXXIII.
An ACT to raise a sum of money for the payment of the officers and
soldiers of
the line of this state, from the first day of August,
seventeen hundred and eighty,
to the first of January, seventeen hundred and eighty-one.
The only parts of this act material
to be inserted are the following: |
Auditor to adjust
accounts,
&c. |
VI. And be it
enacted, That the auditor-general be, and he is hereby directed,
to settle and adjust the accounts of the troops of this state in the service
of the
United States, and grant them certificates for their depreciation, in the
same
manner as is directed by the act to settle and adjust the accounts of the
troops of
this state in the service of the United States, and for other purposes,
and the several
supplements thereto; and that so much of the said act as empowers the governor
and the council to appoint a commissioner to settle and adjust said accounts,
be and is hereby repealed. |
Commissioners
to deliver
books, &c. |
VII. And be
it enacted, That the commissioner or commissioners appointed in
virtue of the aforesaid act be, and they are hereby directed, to prove
and deliver
over to the auditor-general, the book or books, containing all the accounts
settled
and adjusted by them in virtue of the aforesaid act, with all duplicate
certificates,
vouchers, and other papers, relative to the business of their office as
commissioner;
and the auditor-general is hereby directed to charge the amount of all
and every
depreciation certificate to account of the United States. |
Certificates
may be assigned,
&c. |
IX. And be it
enacted, That any certificates granted to any soldier may hereafter
be assigned without any attestaion of any officer, and without any restraint. |

CHAP. XXIV.
A Supplement to the act to raise the supplies for the year seventeen
hundred and
eighty-three.
In this act, each collector is required,
by the 10th day of every month (beginning with June next)
until all the taxes due in his county be collected, to make out an alphabetical
list of those who shall have
paid their tax, before the 1st day of the month.
One copy of such list he is to lodge with his county
clerk, and another copy he shall send, by the first opportunity, to the
intendant. This provision was
calculated to stigmatize all such as, at that critical time, should neglect
so important a duty as that of
punctually paying their taxes. |
