98 PRINCE GEORGES COUNTY

Nathan Veetch made oath that he had Attended five Dayes for William Westry
against John Soaper Whereupon it is ordered that the Said William Westry pay
unto the Said Nathan Veetch one hundred and fifty pounds of tobaccoe for his
Said five dayes Attendance.

Ordered that the Sheriffe take William Gasking into his Custody and putt
him In the Stocks for one hower for being Drunk and abuseing the Court, and
then Released.

Nathan Veetch made oath that he Attended five dayes for William Westrey
against Thomas Sprigg Sr. Whereupon it is ordered that the Said William
Westrey pay unto the Said Veetch one hundred and fifty pounds of tobaccoe for
his Said five days Attendance.

the Suite of William Westry.

Nathan Veetch Sworne as a wittness for William Westrey against Thomas
Sprigg Sr.

The Court Adjourned for one hower and then mett and Satt as followeth
(Viz.)

Present. Mr. Thomas Hollyday, Mr. William Barton, Mr. John Wighte, Mr.
Robert Bradley, Mr. David Small, Mr. William Tanyhill, Mr. Robert Tylor,
Comisoners.

[90] John Short plantiffe: John Gardiner Defendant.

Prince Georges County Ss. John Gardiner Late of Prince Georges County
planter was Atteched to Answer unto John Short of a plea of trespass upon the
Case etc.

And Whereupon the Said John Short by Cleborn Lomax his Attorney Com-
playneth that whereas the Said John Short is a good true honnest and faithfull
man of our Sovereigne Lord the King that now is and as Such a good true faith-
full and honnest man of our Sovereigne Lord the King that now is and from the
time of his Nativeity hitherto hath Lived demeaned behaved and Governed
himselfe of good name fame Credit and Estimation Condition Conversation
Repute and behavour hath been by all persons knowing him as well in Endgland
as in this province Esteemed and Reputed and Soe hath Continued from the
time of his Nativeity hitherto without Suspition of any Fellony Falcity Cheating
Couznage Deceipt Dishonnesty or perjury and from the procureing of any Such
like wickedness in any manner whatsoever noted or Suspected by the whole
Course of his life hitherto hath Remained Lived and Continued by Reason and
means whereof the Said John Short hath not only deserved had and Obtained
the Love Favour and good will of all his neighbours but alsoe of Severall other
Honorable and worty persons of this province but alsoe hath kept and Con-
served himselfe fame opinion Estimation reputation and all his goods Chatties
Lands and tenements Safe Secure and untainted and in no wise Subject to the
Riggor of any Law for any Cheating falsity Cozneage Deceipt Perjury or dis-
honesty whatsoever for or against Such Offences as abovesaid at any time here-
tofore made and provided Yet the Said John Gardiner being not Ignorant of
the premises but Envying the happy Estate and Condition of the Said John
Short and malitiously Intending him the Said John Short to deprive of his good
