Thomas Worthington Servant to Mr. Robert Wade Sett Free by Order of Court
by reason that he came in a Servant for Seven years and hath Servd twelve years
by new Contracts without ever being a Freeman.
Ordered that his Said Master Pay him a Gunn and Cloaths according to act of
Assembly.
Ordered that a venire goe foarth for Deborah Keneston to answer the Com-
pleint of Mary Thought in order for her appearance the next Court.
Ordered that Mary Thought be bound to Serve John Summers till this
November comeing come twelve months in Consideration the Said John Sum-
mers to finde and allow her meat drink and Lodgeing and apparrell to Keep her
warme.

Prince Georges County Ss: June the 27th 1699.
The Jurors of our Sovereigne Lord the King for the body of Prince Georges
County upon their Oaths doe present John Bennett Late of Prince Georges
County Labourer that he the Said John Bennett upon or about the first day of
September in the year of our Lord 1698 att Patuxant Hundred within the Juris-
diction of this Court not haveing the Fear of God before his Eyes but mooved by
the instigation of the Devill then and there had to doe with one Abigaile
Clifford and on the body of the Said Abigaile Clifford did begett a male Child
commonly called a Basterd Contrary to his Majesties Peace and act of Assembly
in that Case made and Provided etc.

And now here att this day (to Witt) the 20th day of September annoque
Domini 1699 before the Justices of our Sovereigne Lord the King att Charles
Towne came the Said John Bennett in Custody of the Sheriffe of Prince Georges
County and being brought to barr in his Propper Person presently it is de-
manded of the Said John Bennett how he Avould acquitt himselfe of the
premisses above imposed upon him.
And the Said John Bennett by William Stone his attorney so admitted by the
Speaciall favour of this Court cometh and Defendeth the force and Injury when
etc. and Saith that he is in noe wise Guilty thereof and thereof for good or Evell
putts himselfe upon the Country: William Stone.
And his Majesty allso. Joshua Cecell
[470] Therefore it is Commanded here that the Sheriffe cause to Come here
imeadiately twelve etc. by whome etc. who neither etc. to recognize etc. because
as well etc.
And now here at this day (to Witt) the 26th day of September Annoque
Domini 1699 came as well the Said Joshua Cecell for his Majesty as the Said
John Bennett by William Stone his attorney aforesaid and the Jurors thereon
impanelled being called Likewise came (to witt)
John Chittham, foreman, Bartholomew Goff, William Mills, Thomas Locker,
David Davis, Isaack Williams, Benjamin Long, Samuell Brasheers, William
Morgan, Nathaniell Wickham, William Greenup, John Browne.
Who to Spake the truth in the Premisses being Elected tryed upon their Oaths
doe Say that the Said John Bennett is Guilty of the Premisses aforesaid to him in
forme as by the Indightment aforesaid is Supposed against him.
