John Meryton Plantiff: Thomas Orton Defendant

Thomas Orton Late of Prince Georges County Sadler was Atteached to answer
unto John Meryton one of the attorneyes of the Said Court according to the
Liberties and Priveledges etc. in a Plea of Tresspass upon the Case.

And whereupon the Said John Meryton in his propper Person complaines that
whereas the Said Thomas the 22d day of June 1697 at Charles Towne within the
Jurisdiction of this Court the Said John then and Still being one of the Attorneys
of the aforesaid County Court of Prince Georges County in consideration that
the Said John Meryton att the Speciall Instance and request of him the afforesaid
Thomas would bee attorney for him the Said Thomas and appear and Defend
him the Said Thomas in three Severall actions brought and Commenct against
him the Said Thomas in the Said County Court of Prince Georges County afore-
said by three Severall persons Viz. Cato Mackdonell Trumans administrator and
Otho Holland whereof if the Fees thereof usually in this Court allowed for three
actions amounts to three hundred pounds of Tobbacco as by a Perticular account
here in Court here in Court Produced may appear yet notwithstanding the Said
Thomas his Promise and Assumption aforesaid not regarding but deviseing and
Fraudulently intending him the Said John the Said Sume of 300 pounds of
Tobacco Craftily and Subtilly to deceive and defraud the Said Thomas the Said
Sume of 300 pounds of Tobacco to the Said John hath not Paid, although often
required but the Same to him to Pay hath denyed and Still doth deny to the
