Joint resolution of the Senate and House of Dele-

gates of Maryland.
|
Preamble.
|
WHEREAS, The Naval Academy of the United States,
|
 
|
as well as the property known as Fort Madison,
|
 
|
is situated on the harbor of the City of Annapolis ;
|
 
|
and
|
 
|
WHEREAS, The entrance to said harbor is materially
|

obstructed, and the navigation of the mouth of
|
 
|
the Severn River impeded, to the great detriment
|
 
|
and injury of the operations of the Naval School,
|
 
|
as well as of the commerce of the State, by the
|
 
|
inadequacy of depth of water at the entrance of
|
 
|
said harbor; and
|
 
|
WHEREAS, It is estimated that a reasonable outlay
|

of money, for more fully deepening said entrance

|
to the harbor, would obviate the difficulties under
|
 
|
which said harbor labors to the great advantage
|
 
|
of both the Navy of the United States as well as-
|
 
|
of the commerce of this State; therefore,
|
 
|
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
|
Requested
and instruct'd
|
That our Senators be instructed, and the members
|
 
|
of the House of Representatives of the United States
|
 
|
from this State, be requested to urge upon Congress
|
 
|
the appropriation of a sum of money sufficient to
|
 
|
adequately improve by deepening and otherwise the
|
 
|
entrance to the harbor of the City of Annapolis, in
|
 
|
the State of Maryland.
|
 
|
And be it further resolved, That a copy of these
|
