LAWS OF MARYLAND.

 

twelve and one hundred and thirteen of article twenty
Public Local Laws, title " Talbot county, " sub-title
"Oxford, " be and the same is hereby repealed and
re-enacted so as to read as follows:

Elect five com-
missioners.

99. All male inhabitants above the age of twenty-
one years, who shall have had a bona-fide residence
in said town for six months and twelve months in
the State next preceding the election, or who shall
be the holders of real property within the limits of
said town, and have resided six months in Talbot
county and twelve months in the State, shall on the
first Monday of June in each year, at such time and
place as shall be designated by the commissioners,
elect five persons who have resided in said town
at least twelve months next preceding the ejection,
commissioners of said town.

Be vested.

108. All property of said town shall be vested in
said commissioners, and they may collect all wharf-
age due and taxes levied by them as other taxes are
collected.

Levy taxes

110. They may levy and collect taxes in said town
not exceeding in any year fifty cents on the hundred
dollars on the assessable property in said town, and
shall once in three years appoint an assessor, who
shall, under oath, value and assess the property in
said town, in the same manner and with like au-
thority as county assessors.

Appoint bailiffs

112. The said commissioners may annually appoint
one or more persons to perform the duties of bailiff
or collector within the limits of said town Whitehall
take an oath before some justice of the peace for
Talbot county to faithfully perform their duties
without favor, affection or partiality according to the
best of their skill and judgment, and who shall give

bond in the same manner and in the same penalty
as the constables of Talbot county.

113. The bailiff shall preserve order, keep the
peace, serve processes, abate nuisances and execute
all orders of the board of commissioners, and shall
have power to command the peace, arrest offenders,
collect moneys due the corporation, and do all such
